The SBL Prospects

The new Summer basketball league is in the works of some great things. Commishanor Landon Potvin has been trying to push out new content weekly. His goal is to have 200 likes on his Facebook page by June 30. This week Landon and Newman go into detail about each player. Thanks for the read.

Description: Tristan has a big frame in comparison to Jaylen Brown; he also was a great ability to drive into the lane and get off any shot he wants. But with a double team likely to come, he will always find the open man and make the right play. His years of coaching gives him the ability to lead a team and guide them toward victory.

Player Comp. Jaylen Brown

Description: An excellent post scorer with a consistent three-point shot. His size and strength allow for great defense both at the point and down low. He has tendencies to take a more contested shot rather than look for the open man but makes up for it with his unmatched finishing ability.

Player Comp: Anthony Davis

Description: Shawn is your typical field general point guard. He is a lethal scoring when the time comes. But early in-game looks to get everyone involved with saucy plays.

Player Comp. Rajon Rondo

Description: Hunter is a freak athlete with a three-level scorer mentality. Has a frame of a football player and the agility of a basketball player. He has a downhill type player but can settle for a pull-up jumper. Solid defender but takes many chances on the ball that could hurt the team in the long run. At points will rest on defense and sometimes offense.

Player Comp. Zach Lavine

Description: Steven is a bigger guard, very smart with a solid shot. Create plays for himself, and most of the time, he is a pass-first guard. Do not sleep on his shooting ability, or he will make you pay, but you can not commit to the three either, or he will drop a gear and light you up for two points. Because of his body type and strength, he can guard one through four and be competitive.

Player Comp. Eric Gordon

Description: We have not seen Cody play

Player Comp. N/A

Description: A scrappy player who is willing to fight through contact to get those “AND 1”. It would work well in a screen and role game for mid-range but could be inconsistent from 3. He can switch onto most defenders because of his strength but can get beat by speedy or taller players. He can get rebounds when he commits to it. He can force shots and get cold fast but heat back up quickly with his effort.

Player Comp. Russell Westbrook

Description: A crafty playmaker, Duck is an all-around scorer. Ability to hit contested layups and threes without a little drop-off inaccuracy. It can also heat up in the mid-range but can overthink it and leave it short. Solid playmaking as well with a sense of where shooters should be. His scoring must make up for his small frame, making it difficult to defend where he can be a liability. He can make up for it with steals, but that leads to breakdowns if he misses. It can get cold but stays pretty cool and collected.

Player Comp: De’Angelo Russell

Description: Lowe is the most consistent player in the league. He is unwavering in his demeanor and shooting ability. He will knock down threes at a constant rate and drive with the excellent length for a guard. He can be overpowered in the paint but has great hands and great lateral movement for disrupting plays. He can run the point but is better suited for a catch-and-shoot role.

Player Comp: RJ Barrett

Description: We have not seen Stephen play

Player Comp N/A

Description: Andrew is another guard with a solid frame, a bit on the shorter side but makes up for it with his ability to create space and downhill speed. He does not always give an honest defense effort but never sees a shot he does not like. Andrew comp is Oladipo for his ability to score on all three levels, But the consistency is sometimes vacant.

Comp: Victor Oladipo

Description: Kam is a big guard who can also defend one through four. He is challenging to score on as he challenges himself to shutdown teams' number one option. Kam loves the mid-range and is good at it. But he may love it too much. He tends to pull up when it's not the best shot. He loves to make plays but can be costly as his assist to turnover ratio is about 2:1. If you need a teammate that will always be there for you, you can count on Kam to come to pick you up.

Comp. Jimmy Butler

Description: Tim is a dawg on the court; his jaw never stops moving neither do his feet. High motor player.

Player Comp. Jrue Holiday

Description: Rachel is a proven guard that is very physical in all aspects of the game. She takes pride in how she plays. If she gets beat one play the next time down, she is determined not to let that happen again. Her best trait is her ability to get to the rim and finish.

Player Comp: Cam Reddish

Description: N/A

Comp. N/A

Description: Highlights of Hills game has to be his impressive ball handling. This allows for great driving opportunities and kick-outs to three-point shooters. However, he may not locate a cutter and take a forced shot. His defense is average for his position but should not be switched unless necessary.

Player Comp: Jamal Crawford

Description: Ballard is a tank when it comes to his height and frame. This alone makes for easy rebounding and put backs. Be wary that he may bring the ball down low after a rebound and can be stripped easily. His shooting can not be counted on and can only recognize basic passing lanes but can sometimes make it up with his velocity.

Player Comp: Jakob Poeltl

Description: Matt is a fan favorite. By far the most athletic at his position. His potential is very high; is he there yet? No. Matt tries to do too much in one play. He will take ill-advised threes, especially when he is cold. Matt can heat up from three but rarely shoots over 20 percent. When Matt is hot, he’s great to play with. But when he’s cold and in his own head, it's a disaster for his team.

Player Comp: Brandon Clarke

Description: Jacob’s strengths are his size and rebounding. He understands his role as a screener and post scorer and can a willing passer but can be loose with the ball and make a couple of errant throws. His post scoring is effective but does not have a great shooting motion and will attempt floaters or one-handed threes outside the paint. He is slow and can be beaten on the outside by a 3-point slasher. Newman is a good guy, so that he can make chemistry with most players.

Player Comp: Bismack Biyombo

Description: Maliki will be one of the younger guys here, but he sure does not play like it. He is tall and physical. Can pull one from deep or can bully you down in the post. At times can get lost in the pick and roll game. In transition, he is a nightmare.

Player Comp. Mikal Bridges

Description: Ben is a crafty slithery two-guard. Ben takes pride in his ability to play above-average defense. You can always rely on him to play solid defense. Ben can get to the basket with great off-ball cuts, but his finishing ability comes and goes. If Ben is hot, he is a scary man to face.

Player Comp: Danny Green

Description: Ashton is coming off of a torn ACL, but he is determined to make the grind back worth it. His playmaking is something he loves to do, the flashy between the legs pass or behind the back. With that being said, it does lead to a lot of turnovers. He does play big, but that does not mean he can’t drag you out to the perimeter and pour a three-down your throat or take you off the dribble. He does seem to get in his own head at times and disrupt his own game.

Player Comp. Nikola Jokic

Description: Mitchell does not scare you underneath the hoop or beyond the arc. But if you leave him a sliver of room in the mid-range, he will sink it. Mitchell's strength is where he shows out. On the defensive end, the chances of you getting by him are slim. But Mitchell does press sometimes too much and can get beat off the dribble or back door.

Player Comp: Patrick Williams

Description: Nick young, is top two most physical players in the league, Loves to talk game and sometimes get him in trouble. Nick can be a treat from deep, but no one respects it. Nick will get you in the post and absolutely bully you into the ground, but Nick will be Nick and have several turnovers throughout the game. Don't try to talk back to nick, or he will show you who’s boss, even if you’re on his team.

Comp: Dwight Howard

Description: Zach Hayer has not had much time to be scouted, but when I did see him, his post presence is to be reckoned with. The chances of you moving him out of the way are like finding a needle in a haystack. Zach, at times, can get lost on the court, causing chaos.

Comp: Ivica Zubac

Description: Big shot, BOB. Another fan favorite of the captains. Bob's inconsistency from three is why his draft stock is a bit lower than he would like. Bob’s IQ is why he is higher than some may expect. At times, Bob does not show up in games, but if you need a big shot, you know who to call. Bob is in a tough situation because he is too small to guard the four but too slow to guard the one. Finding the right time to play bob is crucial to his playing time.

Player Comp: JJ Reddick

Description: Hayzen is a lengthy forward with good strength. Hayzen is quite erratic when it comes to dribbling the ball and results in a Funky shot or a turnover. Other than his inconsistent finishing ability, his length and athleticism be the only thing going to him.

Player Comp: Jakarr Sampson

Description: Mason is a good slasher that can shoot the three-ball a bit. He finds ways to get shots off on drives, does not mean they’re good shots…or they even hit the rim. Mason is a handsy defender that could get him into foul trouble. Mason, at times, can get lazy and lose track of his defender.

Player Comp: Gary Harris

Description: PJ is a monster when it comes to rebounding and setting Incredible screens. That's it.

Comp: Cristiano Felicio

Description: Nick Clark, for his height, struggles inside the paint. Nick is a solid player when you need a three late in the game or even throughout the game. Nick is a bit of a liability against real Four's as his frame takes away from his ability to defend. Nick loves to go for blocks and will get him in foul trouble.

Player Comp: Nikola Mirotic

Description: Colin is originally a pure hockey player. Which gives him strength and power. But when it comes to basketball, he struggles. Colin has an arcing three-point shot that likes to go in, his form is a bit slow which can get him blocked. Colin’s defense needs improvement. He lacks the knowledge of basketball terms, which can really hurt his draft stock.

Player Comp: Ben Macklemore
